How It Works

How to Order

You may be able to register for the service via the homepage, or alternatively you may need to be referred from your local sexual health-clinic who will provide a special web link when you visit. Once registered, you are able to return to the service and request up to 4 screens each year.

To register you must provide some details, including your email address and UK mobile number (both are required to register), along with your address and other details to ensure we can send your test kit to you and notify you when the results are available.

Each time you login and wish to use the service, our online consultation will ask a series of questions which are designed to identify the most suitable tests and self-sampling kit for you.

What will arrive?

Once you've completed your order, your self-sampling kit will arrive in the mail within a few days (we send kits via 1st Class mail).

The kits are small and discreet - the box is sent in a white plastic bag with no identifying markings or logos!

What’s in the test kit?

Your kit contains all the bits you need to collect your sample and return it to our laboratory for testing. There will also be a form that includes additional information and instructions showing how to collect and return your sample(s) to us for testing.

Your kit contents may differ from that shown, because we only include the components you need for the sample you are collecting.

How do I collect my sample?

Our basic kits will require either a urine or a vaginal swab sample along with a finger-prick blood sample to test for blood borne viruses. Some kits may also offer you additional swabs to test for oral and rectal infections if you have indicated you are at risk of these infections.

Full sample collect instructions are included in the kits, instructions and instructional videos can be found on our Collecting Your Samples page.

If you try but are unable to collect a blood sample, we will still test your swab or urine for chlamydia and gonorrhoea (the most common infections).

Returning Your Test Kits

Once you've taken your sample, ensure you have completed the included form (but keep the top part - you may need it to collect your results).

Place your sample and the form back in the box and seal the box shut making sure the tabs lock tightly.

We've already paid for the postage (it's freepost), so you can simply pop the kit in your nearest postbox as soon as you can.

Accessing and Tracking Your Test Results

You will receive your results via the method you chose when registering. Each time you start an online consultation we ask you to confirm your details as it is important you keep these up to date.

You may also track your specimen and view results by logging into your SHL.UK account at any time.
