Emergency Contraception

Emergency contraception can be used to prevent pregnancy up to 5 days after sex, depending on which method you use.

Regular Contraception

Long-acting reversible contraception

Long-acting reversible contraception methods are the most effective methods, offering between 3-months and 10 years protection against pregnancy.

  • Intrauterine Device (copper coil)
  • Intrauterine System (hormonal coil)
  • Contraceptive implant
  • Contraceptive injection

Non-LARC methods

Contraceptives containing oestrogen and progestogen

  • Combined contraceptive pill
  • Vaginal ring contraceptive
  • Contraceptive patch

Non-reversible methods

  • Vasectomy (male sterilisation)
  • Female sterilisation

Barrier methods

  • Diaphragm or cap
  • Male (external) condom
  • Female (internal) condom
