What happens if the user hasn’t provided enough blood to run all tests?

Each kit contains three lancets (allowing for three attempts) for the user to provide enough blood. The laboratory will prioritise HIV, followed by syphilis assays ahead of HBV or HCV. While the HIV assay requires significantly more sample than the syphilis assay (so in some cases only a syphilis test may be possible), it is our experience that where the sample is attempted, most users collect sufficient sample for these two tests. The service user will be notified of any tests not complete due to insufficient volume when logging onto the portal. These service users will be signposted to a local clinic for standard venepuncture. Likewise, users having difficulty with bloods will be encouraged to attend clinic, rather than requesting another kit.
